Over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house you may go for the holidays. While you’re looking forward to a joyous holiday season, traveling can be stressful. Not just for you but your vehicle as well.

Put your mind at ease by visiting your local Tire Discounters and take advantage of our seven different courtesy checks or our extensive 22-point safety check to ensure your vehicle is in good condition and safe for all your holiday travel needs.
Have a professional check your fluid levels
While looking under the hood and checking your fluids seems to be an easy enough task, there is a risk of serious injury if not performed properly. Our ASE certified technicians can check your fluid levels, and the systems they control. We recommend checking the following fluids in addition to your motor oil; brake fluid, coolant fluid, power steering fluid, transmission fluid and windshield washer fluid.
Ensure proper tire care
Keep in mind, the only thing keeping your car safely on the road is your tires. During the holiday season, the additional wear from the extra workload and excessive heat from your systems working harder increase the changes of irregular and premature wear. If your tires are not properly inflated, you run the risk of over-loading them and this can lead to tire disintegration. While checking your tires, we can do a quick alignment check to ensure your vehicles suspension system and steering components are in good condition.
Oil and filter changes on schedule
There’s nothing like a well-oiled machine to ensure safety and longevity on the road. Next to you, regular oil changes are your vehicles best friend. They are easily the least expensive maintenance you can do to maximize engine life and reduce repairs. Remember your vehicle is going to work harder with the additional weight and excessive heat, so to ensure your vehicle is properly lubricated and up to the challenge make an appointment at your local Tire Discounters.
Check your battery, test the heater, lights and wipers
Studies show that two-thirds of American drivers have never proactively had their car battery tested. The average life expectancy of a battery in the Midwest is only 3-4 years. New technology and entertainment systems pull additional electrical draws from the battery, outside of the normal systems. Checking your battery before it fails, will save you additional stress during the holiday season. While checking your battery, take a few minutes to test your heat. Nothing is worse than finding out your heat isn’t working when it’s 30 degrees outside. Make sure it is working properly now. If there is a problem it can be fixed before you really need it. Think back, it’s probably been at least 4 or 5 months since you last used the heat. In addition, check your interior and exterior lights to ensure everything is working properly. Lastly, no matter what mother nature throws your way, you’re going to need to see the road. Test your wiper blades for signs of wear and replace if necessary.
We want you to enjoy your family trip this holiday season and not have to worry or deal with preventable vehicle issues. Just remember, heat and excessive workload can cause unnoticed damage to your vehicle and its vital systems, so let Tire Discounters prepare your vehicle with our own to-do list and you worry about enjoying the holidays.
